From ancient times it was believed that this island is illuminated by the sun more than any other place. Thus, the ancients wanted Apollo and Artemis to be born there, from Leto who was looking for a place to bring to the world the fruits of her love with Zeus but Hera left no place to accept her.

It is estimated that at the beginning of the 1st century B.C. this small island was inhabited by about 30,000 people and that in its ports it was possible to move 750,000 tons of goods every year.

In the archeological site of Delos one can admire the so-called Hermes Market which dates from the 2nd B.C. century, the sanctuary of Apollo, the street of the Lions, the house of Dionysus, and the district of the Theater with the luxurious residences where the famous dolphins of Delos are.

Delos island is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
